Karaimo (Sweet potatoes) Exchange

Time and Duration: 2 weeks in July
No. of Places: 10 students
Location:
Students will live with local host families in various part of Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures in southern Kyushu. Most of the host families are self-employed people such as farmers, fishermen and shopkeepers (hence the name "sweet potatoes"), and you are expected to live with them and help them with their work, if they so require, as would a member of their own family.
Activities:
There will be many friendly exchange opportunities both at the local level, within the community where your host family lives, and at the prefectural level. On such occasions, you will naturally be expected to represent Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong. There will be one big get-together at which all one hundred foreign exchange students from Hong Kong and Korea as well as people from Kagoshima and Miyazaki will gather for performances and speech-making. You will be expected to perform possibly a song or a dance and to make a speech onstage.
